Gospel for Friday of week 11 in Ordinary Time

"Do not store up for yourself treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal; but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light; but if your eye is unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!" (Mt 6: 19-23).

Another weekday Gospel that struck a chord in me and I am encouraged to reflect and share.

Today's Gospel made me think deeply of my own spiritual journey. It also made me think of the Christian journey. Having heard the Gospel and a small homily I left the Church thinking about that word 'treasures'. When we hear this word we often think of money and other possessions that we own, that is certainly what I thought of when this Gospel was proclaimed. But I feel the word 'treasures' used in the context of this Gospel means more, just look at the second part of the Gospel, that is there for a reason. As people of God, we have treasures within ourselves, treasures which God wants us to share with the world. These treasures are our talents and characteristics. We must not keep these treasures for ourselves. Sharing and using our treasures is what we are called to do as Christians. There is no point in keeping these treasures to ourselves for when we die it is like our earthly treasures, we cannot bring them with us.
'The eye is the lamp of the body'. Through our eyes, we radiate the light of our body. It is our task, our responsibility to ensure the light we radiate is good light. Let us share our God-given treasures with the world in order to shed goodness in a world filled with so much evil and hatred.

On Saturday I was struck by the Gospel for the second day in a row. Odd, I don't know if it was because of the place I was in or mearly ...
